Juan Mendizábal

Composer

Juan Mendizabal is a composer from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, currently based in the cities of Los Angeles, California and San Antonio, Texas. He's a one-time winner of the MACEF Illustrious award, as well as a winner and nominee for the best soundtrack score category in various film festivals in the US and abroad. He has worked in projects ranging from films, short films, live events, internet streaming, videogames and others. 

In 2024 he scored the soundtrack for the award-winning and Academy Award shortlisted short-film "In The fold", premiering at Tribeca. 

His music is recognizable by its diverse style and adaptability to picture and scene, as well as directorial needs. He has composed music for the platformer videogame "Witchfall", horror "Meet Your Oshi", skateboarding "Stardust Skate" and RTS "Equestria at War", showcasing his diverse composing ability.

He has also composed music for various internet streamers, such as Pokimane, as well as for the internet streamer indie company Vchiban, Basil the Wolf and Boo. 

He has written additional music for Univision and for Disney+, as well as for McDonald's and Toyota. He has also worked with Flexi in Mexico.

He is currently working on a yet unannounced fighting videogame project, consisting of over 60+ pieces ranging from character and location themes to environmental and situational pieces. 

His personal projects include the album "Mythic", a series of pieces exploring the themes of magic and myth, his symphonic poem "A Tale of Starlight", and his Fantasy-inspired "Una Fantasia". 

Juan is a graduate in music composition from the California Institute of the Arts, where he mentored under composer Karen Tanaka, and studied under Mark Lowenstein, Robert Wannamaker and Emi Tamura, and is currently studying an MBA at the University of the Incarnate Word.

Juan is a member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists and the Music Teacher's Association of California.
